Revo-TRC Servicing

Tools Required

Torque wrench, 8mm hex bit, grease

Preparation

  1. If fitted, remove existing pedals.

The right pedal uses a conventional thread. With the end cap of the pedal body towards you, rotate the axle in a counter-clockwise direction to remove.

The left pedal uses a reverse thread. With the end cap of the pedal body towards you, rotate the axle in a clockwise direction to remove.
  2. Clean the crank threads and inspect for damage. Do not install Renthal pedals if the crank thread appears to be damaged.

Installation

  1. Grease the threads of both pedals.
  2. The right pedal has an ‘R’ marked on the pedal body next to the axle. Engage the threads by hand initially. The right pedal uses a conventional thread. With the end cap of the pedal body towards you, rotate the axle in a clockwise direction.
  3. Tighten the pedal onto the crank using an 8mm hex bit in your torque wrench. Tighten to the crank manufacturer's recommended torque.
  4. The left pedal has an ‘L’ marked on the pedal body next to the axle. Engage the threads by hand initially. The left pedal uses a reverse thread. With the end cap of the pedal body towards you, rotate the axle in a counter-clockwise direction.
  5. Tighten the pedal onto the crank, using an 8mm hex bit, in your torque wrench. Tighten to the crank manufacturer's recommended torque.

Bearing Replacement and Reassembly

  1. Lightly grease the external surfaces of a new, unused main seal (do not reuse the old seal) and install it onto the axle using a gentle rotating motion. Ensure the correct orientation with the lip seal going on first.
  2. Grease the pedal axle bushing surface and install the new Igus bushing onto the axle. The square end of the bush against the seal and the tapered end at the snap ring groove. Grease the outer surface of the Igus bush to aid installation into the pedal body.
  3. Install a new, unused snap ring (do not reuse the old snap ring) by sliding along the axle until it clicks into the snap ring groove. Ensure it is fully seated into the groove around the full circumference.
  4. Lightly grease the external surfaces and threads of the axle.
  5. Slide the axle into the inboard side of the pedal body. The grooved axle is for the left pedal and plain for the right pedal. Press very hard to ensure the bush is fully seated. A hard stop will be felt when fully seated.
  6. Lightly grease the surfaces of the new bearings and install two onto the axle. Thread the end cap into the pedal body and tighten it to press the two bearings into place. A hard stop will be felt when the bearings are fully seated.
  7. Remove the end cap and place the third bearing onto the axle. Thread the end cap into the pedal body to press the bearing into place. A hard stop will be felt when the bearing is fully seated.
  8. Remove the end cap and install the 8mm nut, ensuring you have the correct side nut.

For the left pedal, use the silver retaining nut. This is a standard thread, so rotate clockwise to install.

For the right pedal, use the black retaining nut. This is a reverse thread, so rotate counter-clockwise to install.
  9. Use the 8mm hex key in the axle, to stop it rotating. Then the use 8mm socket on your torque wrench tighten the retaining nut to 5Nm.
  10. Lightly grease the O-ring and install it into the end cap recess.
  11. Grease the threads of the end cap and reinstall using the 6mm hex bit in your torque wrench. Tighten to 4Nm.
  12. Reinstall the pedals following the “Installation” section of these instructions.
